This exceptional short break offers great opportunities for seeing the Northern Lights. Hospitality is first class and you will enjoy the quiet village atmosphere deep inside the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland.
Day 1 Depart UK - Arrive Rovaniemi
Fly from London or Manchester to Rovaniemi and transfer to the Hotel Aurora in Luosto.
After settling into your room, head down to the dining room where a delightful 3 course dinner will be served. There will be time later to dress up warm and venture out after dark in search of the northern lights before returning to the warmth of your own personal sauna in your room.
Luosto is a small village located about 100km north of the Arctic Circle and Rovaniemi airport. An area of natural beauty with a peaceful environment set close to a National Park, Luosto is famous for its charming logwood cabins built in a traditional style. For those looking for an extra day or two in the north then ice-fishing, snowshoeing and other activities can be arranged or you can enjoy the nearby downhill ski areas.
Day 2 Discover Lapland
After a lazy morning discovering the delights of Luosto, you will learn about life as a reindeer herder in Lapland this afternoon with a visit to a nearby reindeer farm. Enjoy a memorable sleigh ride through the snowy forests before warming up with hot coffee and buns around the fire.
Back at the hotel there is a little time to relax before an early dinner. Then it's back into your Arctic suits to hit the snowmobile trails after dark.
Journey through snow laden forests and across frozen lakes as you are guided through the dark to an ideal spot to seek out the northern lights. Sip warm berry juice around the campfire as you learn a little more about Lapland and the legends that surround the aurora, keeping one eye on the dark night skies with your fingers crossed for some magical displays.
Day 3 Husky Safari
Become a musher for the day on a memorable dog sled safari. After meeting the dogs and some valuable tuition you will set off, 2 persons per sled, on a tour crossing forests and lakes, taking turns at the helm. Speeding along the trails in almost total silence is a truly wonderful feeling that brings smiles to the faces of young and old. Stops will be made along the way for lunch and hot drinks, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Day 4 Depart Finland
Your adventure has come to an end today so after a lazy breakfast and maybe one last walk in the village it's time to transfer back to the airport for your flight home.
Hotel Aurora is proud to offer Luosto's first Glass Igloo's. Located in the hotel grounds these beautifully designed Arctic accommodations offer panoramic views through the glass walls and ceiling to the surrounding Lappish landscape and Arctic skies, offering a unique chance to experience amazing displays of the northern lights from the comfort and warmth of your own private ensuite room. Why not upgrade to one of the special rooms for your final night in Lapland.
