Hotel Ylläshumina

High above the Arctic Circle and located at the foot of Ylläs Fell lies the small village and ski resort of Äkäslompolo. A paradise for cross country skiers, the area boasts 330km of prepared tracks, 38km of which are illuminated.

On the edge of the village, in a natural setting on the shores of Lake Äkäslompolojarvi, Hotel Ylläshumina boasts a proud history as the first hotel in the area and today it provides a friendly Finnish welcome and a warm inviting atmosphere to its guests from around the world. Family owned and operated, the hotel offers guests a choice of accommodations in standard and superior rooms or luxurious suites, all housed in rustic log cabin houses scattered throughout the grounds. For more independence, choose one of the larger family holiday lodges. All rooms are en suite and offer the convenience of a clothes drying cupboard. Guests are welcome to indulge in the traditional Lappish sauna and outdoor hot tub during throughout their stay.

Lappish cuisine and succulent seafood dishes are served buffet style in the rustic Humina Restaurant and on selected evenings traditional treats of Lapland are offered in the Sami styled Kota. The Humina Pub also boasts a tasty menu alongside its vibrant atmosphere and this is the place to be after a day out on the trails.

Owned by one time Finnish Cross Country Ski Team athlete, Toivo Qvist, Ylläshumina prides itself on its extensive ski shop where all equipment can be hired and expert advice offered. Fantastic ski care facilities are also provided on a do-it-yourself basis or you can choose to leave it to the professionals. In addition to the ski trails and footpaths that start directly from the hotel grounds, other winter activities are also available from snow shoeing and reindeer farm visits to snowmobile adventures and dog sled safaris.
