Whale Watching IcelandHighlights: Whale sightings from Reykjavik and the north of Iceland - possibly Minke, Fin, Humpback, Sei, Sperm, Pilot, Northern Bottlenose and Orca plus white-beaked dolphins, porpoises On arrival you will transfer to your flight to Akureyri from Reykjavik. On arrival in the northern capital you pick up a hire car and will drive the short distance through the mountains to Husavik set in a lovely fjord. Husavik has a small town feel and is Europe's whale watching centre. There are daily excursions from here and also a whale museum. One afternoon we highly recommend a drive across the rolling moorland road to Lake Myvatn. The lake is a wildlife haven, particularly with waterfowl and sits on the join of European and American tectonic plates. Consequently there are bubbling mud pools, craters and recent lava flows and hot springs nearby. These all make for an incredible experience. Enjoy another whale watching cruise before returning to Akureyri and Reykjavik. Whales may be seen on a cruise from the capital and there is plenty to explore in the afternoon. Finally a visit to Blue Lagoon rounds off your short break in nature's wilderness. To book or request this itinerary click here ... |
