Wildlife & Wilderness and the PAN Parks Sustainable Tourism Initiative...
PAN Parks
PAN Parks is a European-wide organisation solely focusing on the protection of the continent's wilderness areas. As might be expected in crowded Europe, wilderness areas are a rarity and their need for protection for the preservation of biodiversity is paramount. It follows that these wilderness areas are also already national parks within their own countries and PAN Parks actually means Protected Area Network Parks, i.e. a network of certified national parks across Europe that take best practice from each other to secure core zones within their respective areas as totally safe habitats for flora and fauna.
Furthermore, PAN Parks has also had the vision to safeguard these totally untouched areas by using a truly integrated approach and linking with a sustainable tourism model. Thus there is a marriage of outstanding nature in real wilderness with the recognition of high quality tourism that allows for sustainable local development.
Wildlife & Wilderness Involvement
Wildlife & Wilderness was invited to Bulgaria in November 2009 to consult on the sustainable tourism model and is now proud to be a certified Tourism Partner of PAN Parks. We are now cooperating with PAN Parks to offer tours to some of the certified wilderness areas. These tours will provide you with an opportunity to discover Europe's wilderness in a way which respects the natural environment and supports local businesses. Furthermore, by visiting PAN Parks destinations with Wildlife & Wilderness you are financially supporting Europe's wilderness, as all trips include a contribution to the PAN Parks Foundation.
The tours that will appear on our website shortly include:
1 week walking tour in Majella National Park in the Abruzzo region of Italy including some guiding by local experts.
Short break to Majella National Park again with the chance to learn from local experts.
Winter activity holidays around Oulanka National Park in northern Finland.
For further information on these tours now, contact us direct.
Why these national parks?
Both Oulanka and Majella national parks are PAN Parks which ensures that you are visiting the best of Europe's wilderness. The taiga forests of Oulanka in the north are one of the least understood habitats of Europe whilst Majella or 'Mother Mountain' is among the highest areas of the Apennine mountain chain running down the backbone of Italy and is split by dramatic deep gorges. Both national parks are home to bears and wolves. Finally, remember that by participating in one of these tours you financially contribute to the protection of Europe's wilderness.
