For those that enjoy the outdoors and nature this is an excellent tour of the country that takes in many of Costa Rica's highlights and also includes a few places off the beaten trail. You will enjoy day walks, boat trips and enthusiastic guiding from local specialists. After an easy day to recover from the long flight you head down to the Carribean coast to Tortuguero and its lush waterways home to birds, caiman, monkeys and on the beaches green turtles in season. You next head to one of the Americas most active volcanoes, Arenal. From here we arrange a day excursion to the wetlands of Cano Negro and a soak in the hot springs back near your hotel or exciting zip wires flying across the rainforest canopy.

Next you will explore the cloudforest reserves of Monteverde, prolific in bird life, reptiles and insects as well as some mammalian species too. From this high altitude forest you take a picturesque descent to the Pacific coast and Manuel Antonio. The famous crescent-shaped beaches and headland here are a national park and home to sloths, coatis and other mammals. A wide range of activities are possible here as well as some time to relax.

The final parts to your tour include a small lodge tucked away under the mountains and next to the Savegre River. Here in a natural bowl, tapir are being re-introduced and there are excellent walks or horse rides in the forests. River rafting is also possible. Finally you end your tour in the upper reaches of the Savegre River in Los Quetzales National Park where there are some delightful cottages and great cloudforest experiences. Bird life is a highlight of this area, particularly resplendent quetzals and trogons. The flora is quite diverse across a broad altitude range and many interesting orchids can be found.
