Explore a lesser-known region of the beautiful South Island on this short self-drive holiday that can be easily added to your holiday plans.
Our 'North of the South' covers the wilderness expanse of the Kahuranghi National Park, home to rare flora, fauna and native birds and spends three days dedicated to unique birding experiences. Explore the beautiful waterways, estuaries and beaches of the Abel Tasman National Park and set foot on the most northerly point of the South Island at Cape Farewell, home to innumerable migratory birds including godwits, knots and turnstones, you can also experience the huge gannet colony that make its home on the Spit.
This journey also covers the Marlborough Sounds, a semi-submerged mountain range revealed as a labyrinth of islands, coves and waterways. Take the trail with a mountain bike tour or guided walk along part of the Queen Charlotte Track or get out on the water with a scenic cruise, perhaps to the iconic green-lipped mussel beds. From here it is onwards to the other face of Marlborough - her vineyards. The climate is perfect for world-class wines and the region is renowned for it's Sauvignon Blanc. Explore at your own pace or take a guided food and wine extravaganza around some of the finest food and wine experiences in New Zealand.
