Staying in the remote yet active fishing village of Grundarfjordur you are perfectly placed to explore the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and all of it's natural wonders from the nearby hot springs to the lava fields further afield. Extinct craters, rugged interiors and rich marine life are all here in one of Iceland's most beautiful regions.
For a number of years now, herring have chosen the waters of Breidafjordur Bay and the small fjords near the village as their winter feeding grounds and following right behind them are the Killer Whales! From the warmth and comfort of your harbourfront hotel you will have a front row seat to view the whales that flock here to feed on the herring. However to fully appreciate these majestic mammals we have included a winter whale watching cruise to enable you to get out on the water and up close and personal. With an incredible backdrop of the beautiful surrounding mountains some unique photographs are sure to accompany you home.
Budding photographers amongst you may also wish to add some stunning shots of the aurora borealis to the album. At night, given clear skies, there are excellent opportunities to view the northern lights, as it is easy to get away from the village lights to marvel at the dancing colours above in the dark night skies.
