No visit to Canada at the height of the salmon spawning season is complete without a visit to the outstanding Great Bear Lodge. Couple this with the pristine rainforest of the Pacific Rim National Park, the west coast beaches of Vancouver Island and the protected waters of Johnstone Strait and you have a holiday featuring the very best of British Columbia's natural experiences.
From Vancouver you will set sail for Nanimo on Vancouver Island where your journey to the west coast will continue by car. With a base for the next few nights in the coastal town of Ucluelet you will discover the diverse wildlife that is abundant here from black bears to migrating humpback and gray whales. Explore the Pacific Rim National Park and take long romantic walks on rugged west coast beaches or you could try your hand at surfing, a favourite West Coast pastime!
As you make your way back to the east coast, your next stop is Campbell River, 'Salmon Capital of the World', where you will spend just one night before continuing northwards to Telegraph Cove, rumoured to offer the best whale watching in North America. After spending a further night in this historic township you will travel onward to what has to be the highlight of your trip, Great Bear Lodge. This remote floating lodge is owner operated and their passion for the surrounding pristine rainforest and its grizzly bear residents is infectious.
The next 3 days will be spent in the heart of Great Bear Rainforest with expert wildlife guides as you observe grizzly bears in their natural habitat. Whales, wolves and other wildlife can also been seen during your stay.
Your final night on Vancouver Island will be spent in Port Hardy before flying back to Vancouver where your journey ends after a few days of city exploration.
