Italy independent walking & nature holidays ...
The Appenine mountains that form the long backbone of Italy are well known and popular as a walking destination. They reach their highest and wildest in the Abruzzo region just 2 hours or so from Rome. Here, in the little frequented Majella National Park we have designed a number of independent and partially guided walking holidays in conjunction with PAN Parks, a European wilderness organisation.
Majella is special as it is almost entirely one single massif with deep limestone gorges, pretty villages and an excellent network of trails. The flora and fauna here is extremely rich and diverse, in fact two thirds of all Italian species can be found here, making this part of Italy a wonderful place to discover nature. Wolves, bears and Appenine chamois are among wildlife that can be observed.
