Joining Kiwi Dundee experts at either Tairua, Pauanui or Whangamata you will have a day filled with gold mining heritage, abundant native flora and fauna and magnificent coastal scenery.
The tour begins with a drive over the rugged ranges to Thames, an old gold mining town of huge significance in the 1800's, when it was regarded as the premier town in the country. From here head north following the beautiful western shores of the peninsula lined with pohutukawa trees. Turning inland the road climbs through mountain scenery with time for some fabulous views looking back across the northern Coromandel. After lunch in the relaxed township of Coromandel hop on-board a narrow gauge railway for a ride through regenerating rainforest to a memorable view point from here you should be able to see all the way across the beaches and rainforest of the Coromandel to Auckland, away in the distance.
The Coromandel is a fascinating and exceptionally beautiful region to explore and we are proud to be working with Doug and Jan from Kiwi Dundee, experts in all they do and passionate about the Coromandel.
