Aurora Safari Camp

A stay at Aurora Safari Camp will create more than just a memory, it will offer a personal experience that will both challenge and amaze you and although you may arrive as a guest, you are sure to leave as a friend.

Nestled in a secluded spot on the banks of the Räne River in Swedish Lapland, Aurora Safari Camp was inspired by the African Bush Camps, where its founders spent many years working in hospitality. Originally founded by renowned Swedish photographer Fredrik Broman and safari specialist Jonas Gejke, they combined their extensive knowledge and experience to create the first tented ‘glamp-site’ of its kind in a remote corner of Swedish Lapland. Today, Jonas and his partner Naila host guests in the Arctic landscape that they now call home.

During your stay, you will want for nothing, and you certainly won’t go hungry. The lounge & dining tent is at the heart of camp, and here you can share good company with plentiful food and drink. Relax indoors by the warmth of the fire or gather for nightcap on the veranda around the outdoor firepit and soak up the stunning views across the lake to the Arctic night skies.

This unique off-grid glamping hide-out certainly doesn’t compromise on comfort. There are just five guest accommodations, each thoughtfully designed and furnished, with a wood burning stove to keep you snug in the most extreme temperatures.

Tipi Cabins
The 3 Tipi Cabins offer a memorable stay and stunning views from their north facing glass covered veranda. These traditional Sami inspired canvas tents are fully insulated with wooden floors and paneled internal walls, with each benefiting from an ensuite toilet and washbasin.

Lapland Cones
The 2 heated Lapland Cone rooms, also with ensuite toilet and washbasin, boast the most comfortable twin or double bed. Shed your winter attire in the separate entrance hallway and step into the cosy bedroom with its conical glass roof and panoramic north facing windows, the perfect spot to cosy up for aurora viewing.

The Sauna
A traditional wood fired sauna sits on a floating platform in the lake. The guest shower is located here and during winter the platform becomes frozen into the ice, leaving just a small ice hole for a refreshing dip after your sauna session.

Activities
Spend lazy days around the camp or out exploring the surrounding nature in a variety of ways. During winter, snowshoes, Nordic skis, fatbikes and kick-sleds are all at your disposal, offering you the freedom to roam independently or with a guide in tow if you prefer. Follow the tracks of moose, reindeer and roe deer, who all reside in the forest, or sit peacefully and listen to the sound of birdsong from the quiet of camp. In summer, guests are invited to enjoy the lake with paddle boards, canoes, kayaks, and maybe a spot of fishing, or fill the long summer days with hiking, biking and forest foraging.  Other guided activities are also available from dog sledding and snowmobile safaris to ice fishing and Sami cultural experiences. This is also the only location in Lapland from which you can experience Hot Air Ballooning over the Arctic landscapes!
