Glass Rooms in Finnish Lapland

Lapland offers many reasons to visit but top of the list for many people is to experience the Northern Lights. This 'bucket list' dream is now so popular that in order maximize viewing opportunities the Finns have created some ingenious and rather unique accommodations. Designed with warmth and comfort in mind, all offer a memorable experience whether you choose a stand-alone stay or combine with more traditional styled accommodation.

The newest offering come in the form of a luxurious Glass Villa. In a countryside setting on the shores of Lake Rukajärvi, Iisakki Glass Village offers just 10 Glass Villas, each equipped with a double bed, en suite bathroom and a small kitchenette. The floor to ceiling windows and glass roof offer stunning views to the outside world for the ultimate in aurora observation.

Wilderness Hotel Nellim is home to both the exclusive Aurora Bubble and Aurora Kota's. Aurora Bubbles are cosy heated wooden pods complete with a domed perspex roof angled towards the north with privacy assured. Located within the hotel grounds they are close to lodge facilities but far enough away from any artificial light to ensure the best views of the Arctic night skies. The simplistic design features a small porch and discrete eco-toilet and with a comfortable bed positioned beneath the domed ceiling. Slightly larger and with en suite facilities, Nellim's north facing Aurora Kota's offer fabulous views to the northern night sky through their partial glass ceiling. Accommodating up to 4 people they are ideal for families and even boast their own private sauna.

At Torassieppi just 4 Aurora Domes offer a unique haven of warmth and comfort providing the ultimate glamping experience. Fully insulated and complete with wood burning stove, these igloo shaped tents offer uninterrupted views of the night skies through the north facing transparent wall. Bathroom facilities and saunas are located just 50m-100m away.

100km north of the Arctic Circle in the small village of Luosto, 10 beautifully designed Arctic accommodations offer panoramic views through the glass walls and ceiling. Located in the grounds of Hotel Aurora the air-conditioned Glass View Rooms feature a private bathroom with toilet and shower and boast quality hotel amenities. Available year-round these stunning rooms provide a unique opportunity to experience amazing auroras in autumn and winter and sleep under the Midnight Sun.

Nestled on top of Lapland's southernmost fell, Hotel Iso Syöte boasts the crème de la crème of glass rooms in their unique Eagles View Suite. The ultimate in luxury with stunning views, this spacious suite features a comfortable living room with cosy fireplace and a luxurious bathroom with private sauna on the first floor. Upstairs is the 'nest' where a sumptuous bed and Jacuzzi are perfectly positioned under a glass ceiling and surrounded by glass walls. The perfect choice for honeymoons and special occasions.

Perfect for families and friends travelling together, Oivangin Lomakartano offers just 4 spacious log cabins, one of which is the brand new 'Aurora'. With 5 en suite bedrooms, this fully equipped modern log villa features a private sauna however its pièce de résistance is the stunning glass room located upstairs which offers 360° views to the skies above.

The brand new Arctic Treehouse Hotel located in a forest setting on the Arctic Circle, features luxurious Nordic designed accommodations with panoramic floor to ceiling windows. The pod-like Treehouse Suites are positioned on stilts with spectacular views over the treetops to the northern skies, whilst the larger Arctic Glass Houses boast an elevated position complete with a spacious terrace.

Possibly Finland's most famous Glass Igloos reside at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in the far north of Lapland. Perfectly formed and built from special thermal glass, you can spend a cosy night under the stars even in the depths of winter as you await the northern lights. The small igloo's feature a toilet and small basin whilst the larger igloos include shower facilities. Also at Kakslauttanen, you will find the Kelo Glass Igloo's, combining the warmth and comfort of a traditional log cabin with the unique luxury and sensational views of a glass igloo bedroom.
